City of Sydney Reduce Single-Use Water Bottles Through WALLOP WATER
The Need
WALLOP WATER provides clean, safe water trailers and portable water stations for events worldwide to reduce the use of single-use plastic water bottles.
The City of Sydney engaged WALLOP WATER to provide clean, chilled drinking water via eight dedicated water stations to over 1 million people watching the fireworks at Sydney Harbour.
Designed to be used in remote areas with little water access, WALLOP WATER required tracking water consumption and usage patterns without manual inspections and checks and providing the City of Sydney with detailed reporting post-event.
The devices they required had to be self-powered, wireless, and industrialised, with reliable communication that could withstand high network usage periods or areas with little network coverage.
The Solution
The HYDRO-IQ was chosen to be installed in the eight water stations used at the New Year’s Eve fireworks. Each device is compact, can easily be installed within the existing water station and can withstand extreme heat or water ingress if it rains.
The device was configured to log every 5 minutes and transmit this data every 15 minutes during an event.
Thanks to HYDRO-IQ’s network capabilities, the device maintained reliable data logging throughout the event despite millions of people accessing the network within a very small area.
By monitoring water flow, total usage of each site, water consumption and water usage times, WALLOP WATER was able to track in near real-time each of the eight stations across a large area from a centralised hub, reducing the need for on-ground team members and truck rolls to monitor the stations.
Over 969L of water was consumed at the event, which prevented 1,615 single-use plastic bottles from reaching landfills. This saved 242L of oil, 1,260 Kg of CO2, and 2,907L of water to manufacture those bottles.
